SQUID HAWK aka Harri

Harri has been drawing since he could hold a pen. The inner-west based artist uses pen, charcoal and clay to produce pieces inspired by mythology, comic strips, cubism and traditional sculpture.

Having worked in childcare for more than a decade, Harri’s art encapsulates the bizzare wonderment children experience at the world around them. Through the eyes of a child, the world becomes complex, fantastic, and sometimes scary without reason.

Harri’s work is emotional and instinctual and heavily influenced by the natural world. His Steiner upbringing and frequent trips to his family’s Braidwood country property left him with a deep appreciation for natural processes. In creating his ceramic works, Harri uses low-technology recipes for clay and glazes that can be gathered from the outback.

Harri’s work showcases his fascination with human anatomy, his appreciation for nature and his hunger for more surrealism in the world. His work is low prep and instinctual, pen and charcoal going directly onto his chosen canvas with little to no conscious plan.
